After getting the information, I headed to the next town to the northeast of here.
As I walked, I didn't have to worry about running into bandits.
This is because the streets are regularly patrolled by soldiers and security is maintained.
Therefore, there are rarely foolish bandits who try to do something illegal.
Still, there are kobolds and other monsters that appear along the way to attack travelers.
And apparently my luck is so bad that I just ran into a horde of them.
It is rare for kobolds that feed in the mountains to come down the trail to attack livestock in the fields, and it is even rarer for them to appear on the road.
The kobolds looked furious, armed with rusty daggers and stone tools.
I don't know if it's fortunate or unfortunate, but it looks like I'm going to have to fight them.
At first I thought about avoiding a pointless battle, but then something occurred to me and I decided to fight them.
"I want to test the edge of this divine sword."
That's what I thought.
I know that this divine sword is the most prized possession of the Estark family.
She has a feminine and talkative personality.
The problem was the edge of this sword.
She said no one has been able to use her for the last few hundred years. In other words, for the last few hundred years, she has been away from actual combat.
I was the type of person who trusted a simple dagger that had been tested in actual combat more than an unused legendary divine sword.
The divine sword lights up and responds to my words.
"Boo~.. You don't trust me, do you?"
"You're very direct."
"How dare you trust a little blade over me?"
''I have heard that Duke Tilleham, kinsman of House Estark, prefers a woman who has borne several sons to a young maiden, since she is more likely to give birth to a strong child.''
I replied with a little anecdote, but those words made Tyrfing burn with rage.
"Now you've really made me angry! come on, I'll show you what I'm capable of!"
Upon saying that, the sword glows faintly.
I thought that the kobolds would be annihilated by the special moves of the divine sword, but it seems that things wouldn't go as I thought.
"Sorry, I've been asleep for hundreds of years and have forgotten how to use my special moves."
"I figured as much. You haven't lost your edge, though, have you?"
"That's what makes me so good, I can go unused for many centuries, and still my edge will never grow dull."
As I said that, I slashed at a Kobold who jumped at me with a sword in its arm.
For a moment, I was speechless because the edge of the sword was incredible. There are several ancient swords in the Estark family, but this may be the first time I've held a sword with such an impressive edge.
It was a different kind of edge, one that was as sharp as a razor and as strong as an axe.
It wasn't easy to get used to, but by the time I slashed through one of the Kobold's stone weapons, I began to get the hang of it.
"...I see, if you cut at this angle, even a stone is no longer a hindrance, just like the legend says."
It seems that the legend that Tyrfing can "cut rock and iron like cloth" is true. She can even slash through iron without me needing to have been trained with the sword.
When it comes down to it, a kobold is no match for her.
I have been learning swordplay since I was a child in the Estark family.
There was a time when I learned to use the sword from a (self-proclaimed) best swordsman in the land to the West.
I was in danger of being murdered by my relatives if I showed my talent for magic, so I had to devote myself to training with the sword.
It was potentially deadly if not recognized in the magical family as one who had no choice but to wield an "iron" sword. It's a tactic I learned as a child.
I couldn't practice my magic in a public place, so instead, I wielded my sword like a fool, and the results paid off as the years went by.
I took down the first kobold with a single swing of my sword, and then impaled the second after several blows. The third kobold fled after I destroyed it's stone axe, and the fourth I sliced its upper body along with both its arms.
In the blink of an eye, four kobolds were destroyed, and the remaining kobolds lost their will to fight and surrendered completely. They threw down their weapons and fled.
When Tyrfing saw what I had done, she said;
"That was awesome! My new master is super strong!"
Tears came to my eyes.
"I don't want to be praised for getting rid of some kobolds."
"My first owner, Bramus, was strong, but it took him two minutes and forty-two seconds to dispose of a herd of ten kobolds. But Licht-Sama took two minutes and thirty seconds, setting a new record.
Was it necessary to say that? While thinking that this sword is quite diligent, I wiped off the Kobold's blood stuck to the blade and put it in its scabbard.
In fact, if I were serious about it, I could have finished this battle in a minute.
However, it was obvious that if I said that, it would make more noise, so I remained silent.
I'm not good with noisy things.
Come to think of it, traveling with this sword is a struggle in some ways, but considering its edge and how powerful it is, I should be able to overlook that flaw.
I picked up my luggage and resumed my journey.
