When my sister Ellen took me to the armory, the first thing she said was.
"I hate you, mother!"
"It's not right to say things like that about your mother"
Apparently, she didn't seem to care.
"'What are you talking about, Brother Licht? My mother is trying to banish you!"
"Hearing that I’ll be banished is hard. But as cruel as it is, someday I'll have to leave home anyway."
I’ve always been alone. I left home at an early age to come here, to a house where everyone despises me. I won't feel sad if I’m forced to leave.
"Don't say that! Brother Licht is the successor of the Estark family."
"I've never been told that."
"I've told you so many times."
"I don't think I've ever heard you say that before."
Ellen sighs and reaches for a shining sword hanging on the wall of the armory.
There are several weapons in the armory, but that sword was unique.
There is something fascinating that even ordinary people can see. It exudes an aura that makes it clear a special power resides in it.
This sword was called "Tyrfing", it is a divine sword.
This sword has been handed down since the age of mythology, and has the power to never rust, so its sharp blade never degrades. It could tear through stone or iron like cloth and it never misses its target.
In other words, it’s an amazing sword. "It's not called "The Divine Sword" for nothing.
When Ellen approaches the sword, she grabs the sheath and lifts the sword. Although she is a slender girl, she is strong enough to be able to hold it. Ellen, like her brothers, has learned the art of swordsmanship since she was a child. The Estark family's reputation of being such superb swordsmen was hard-earned.
Ellen, who has the sword bent over, tries to pull the sword out of its sheath, but something akin to electricity releases from the sword, causing Ellen to hurt herself and drop it on the ground.
I sighed and reached out to pick up the sword.
Before placing the sword in position, Ellen stops me.
"Please wait Brother Licht, try to take the sword out of its sheath."
"I don't want to get hurt."
"But I'm sure Brother Licht would be able to pull it off."
"That is impossible. This sword can only be withdrawn by the chosen one. Only those with Estark blood and extraordinary magical powers can accomplish it."
"Brother Licht is the chosen one."
"Me? No way."
I let out a mocking laugh.
"You know what I am. I'm a bastard without any magic."
"That’s not true. Brother Licht used to use his magic at will. You brought an origami crane to life and healed me when I got hurt."
"... You're wrong, Ellen. I'm sure you were dreaming.I'm a useless guy without any magic.
" That's a lie!"
"I'm not lying, I'm not worthy."
"What.... What do you mean?"
"It's because of what happened today. I know (Ellen meant well) you mean well Ellen, but to be honest, it's annoying to be defended every time Minerva-sama calls me incompetent. I'm incompetent, so I don't care if I get banished. I don't want to stay in this house. It would be a blessing in disguise to be able to leave here."
"But.... If you leave... I'll never see you again."
"It won't be goodbye forever. Besides, Ellen, you'll get married someday. And I won't be able to see you again after that, so this just speeds up the process."
The moment she heard those words, tears formed in her eyes.
She was about to burst into tears, but she was the daughter of the prestigious Estark family. I guess her pride wouldn't allow her to cry in front of someone else. She hid her face with her hands and ran out of the armory.
"Brother Licht is so cruel..."
It was the last thing she said before leaving.
I looked at the sword in my hands.
This sword contains a magical power that can only be released by a member of the Estark family. The mere fact that I can touch it proves that I am a member of the Estark, but I feel no emotion about it, let alone pride.
I let out a slight sigh and put the sword back in place.
I have no interest in the Estark lineage, but I do have an interest in the divine sword itself.
As a child, the scene I saw when I unsheathed the divine sword came back to my mind. The beauty of that white blade is hard to describe.
It was more beautiful than any jewel in this world.
I held the scabbard of the divine sword again with my left hand and the hilt with my right, and unsheathed the sword.
The sword did not resist.
This divine sword can only be wielded by those with uncommon magical power. No one in the Estark lineage has been able to achieve this.
Neither my father, who is called the "God Estark," nor my two older brothers, who are considered fencing geniuses, could draw the sword.
I pulled the sword out very easily.
The white blade of the divine sword reflects my face.
Reflected in it, my face was expressionless and insipid.
"It's nice... It's a pity no one can use it."
After letting these thoughts out, I sheathed the sword and placed it in its original position.
When Licht returns to his room, the sword begins to glow.
The divine sword was about to awaken from its deep sleep that has lasted for centuries.
The sword began to speak;
"A child who has been hated and sullied, who has carried on his back so much pain and suffering, will be marked from birth as the heir of the sword. He will become the hero who will master the thousand sacred swords, and will be the one to bring peace and harmony to this world."
After quoting these words, the light surrounding the sacred sword disappears.
